Swiatek Hits 150 WTA 1000 Wins to Reach Wuhan Open Quarters as Seeds Tumble
Iga Swiatek reached her second straight Wuhan Open quarter-final and notched her 150th WTA 1000 win with victory over Ashlyn Krueger, as the upsets continued with Karolina Muchova, Iva Jovic and Jasmine Paolini all crashing out and Elina Svitolina and Sonay Kartal advancing.

Iga Swiatek stormed into the Wuhan Open quarterfinals on Thursday with a dominant 6-1, 6-4 victory over American lucky loser Ashlyn Krueger.
The six-time Grand Slam champion reached a new career milestone with her 150th WTA 1000 win, continuing her push for a 13th title at this level.
Since the Tier I / WTA 1000 format was introduced in 1990, Swiatek is just the third player to reach 150 wins in her first 50 main-draw appearances at that level, joining Martina Hingis (162) and Serena Williams (153).

“I just wanted to focus on adjusting and being brave, and in the end I'm happy that I was,” said seventh-seeded Swiatek, who needs a title this week to boost her chances of qualifying for next month's WTA Finals in Indian Wells.
“For sure I feel like I'm playing better than at the beginning of the season, so I'm ready to push, and I'm happy to be in the quarters for sure.”
The 25-year-old Pole, who will face either Ann Li or Janice Tjen in the quarterfinals, is one of just two top-10 seeds still alive in a draw that has seen a wave of high-profile exits.
Top Seeds Continue to Fall in Wuhan
A day after top two seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula made shock exits, sixth-seeded Karolina Muchova and 10th-seeded Iva Jovic also bowed out in Wuhan.
Maya Joint, a French Open finalist this year, cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win over American world No. 11 Jovic to set up a quarterfinal clash with Greece's Maria Sakkari.
Diana Shnaider earned her fourth career victory over a top-10 opponent with a 7-5, 6-3 upset of Muchova.
The 22-year-old Russian will next face Jelena Ostapenko for a spot in the final four.
British world No. 170 Sonay Kartal continued her giant-killing run after knocking out ninth-seeded Belinda Bencic in the second round.
This time she dismantled last year's Wuhan semifinalist and No. 15 seed Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-0.
World No. 6 Elina Svitolina avoided the seed exodus, easing into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-4 win to end Chinese wild card Guo Hanyu's inspired run. She will face Kartal next.
