The San Francisco 49ers remain one of the NFL's few unbeaten teams, preserving that status with a narrow victory over the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.

Week 6 in the NFL once again delivered chaos, excitement and thrilling contests, and for the second consecutive week, Monday Night Football was no exception.

This time, the 1-4-1 Washington Commanders traveled to face the 6-0 San Francisco 49ers, who remain undefeated on the season and have been dominant at home with a perfect 4-0 record to start 2026. While unbeaten, the 49ers have not blown teams away and have had to battle for every win, and against a one-win team, the story was much the same.

The loss was not for lack of effort from Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, who excelled in all areas, completing 29 of 40 passes for 300 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, though Washington left it too late, with both scores coming in the third and fourth quarters after managing just three points in the first half.

After battling from behind all night, the Commanders trimmed the deficit to a single score, but in the final moments it was San Francisco's defense ranked fourth in the NFL for fewest points allowed this season that delivered, shutting down Daniels' bid for a dramatic comeback.

San Francisco's offense was powered by star running back Christian McCaffrey, who was electric once again with 117 total yards and two rushing touchdowns to continue another outstanding start to the season.

While most of that production came during a 20-point first half, the team took care of the ball well throughout the second half, as Brock Purdy's side was clinical once more jumping ahead of their opponents and never giving them a real opportunity to mount a comeback.

At home this season, the 49ers are a perfect 4-0, outscoring opponents by a combined 44 points, and as a result they stand as the NFL's lone unbeaten team through the first six games of the 2026 campaign.

Looking ahead to Week 7, the 49ers will hit the road for a matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

For the Commanders, despite sitting at 1-4-1, the NFC East remains wide open behind the first-place Giants at 3-2-1, giving Washington a chance to make up ground when they host the Philadelphia Eagles.
