MLB Recap: Brewers Sweep Dodgers 6-4 to Advance to First Pennant in 43 Years
Brewers sweep Dodgers 6-4 in Game 4 to win the NLCS — 4 wins away from their first pennant since 1982

After leading 4-0 early, the Dodgers watched it all unravel in the fifth, two walks, a bases-loaded free pass, and a stunning collapse on the mound. Garrett Mitchell flipped the game with one swing, Aaron Ashby slammed the door shut, and David Hamilton's unlikely blast in the ninth sealed a 6-4 win as Milwaukee swept Los Angeles and moved four wins away from its first pennant in over four decades.

Dodgers collapse in 5th as Brewers rally from 4-run deficit to win NLCS...

The Milwaukee Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series after defeating them 6-4 in Game 4 on Thursday, advancing to their first World Series in 44 years.

After going down 4-0 following a Shohei Ohtani home run, the Brewers mounted a stellar six-run comeback. They became the first team in MLB history to ever sweep a team that swept them in the previous postseason. It is also the first time the Dodgers were swept in a best-of-seven postseason series since they lost to the Baltimore Orioles in the 1966 World Series.

The last time the Brewers made the World Series was in 1982 when they were still part of the American League. They eventually lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. Now, they are just four more wins away from their first title.

They await the winner between the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays, who are entering their own Game 4. Cleveland currently lead the series 2-1. Milwaukee will have an eight-day break until Game 1 of the World Series.

How the night unfolded

The first inning already put the fans on their feet without the scoreboard even changing. In the first at-bat of the game, Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow forced Jackson Chourio into what looked to be a routine groundout.

That was until a deflection caused Mookie Betts to make a stellar play at short. Glasnow finished the inning 1-2-3 with back-to-back strikeouts.

Brewers starter Shane Drohan only lasted the bottom of the first inning, where he struck out Ohtani before giving up back-to-back walks. He eventually got Will Smith to ground out into a double play to end the inning, but that was pretty much the end of his evening.

Following a 1-2-3 top half of the second inning from Glasnow with another two K's and a groundout, Drohan was pulled after giving up a lead-off single to Kyle Tucker.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy brought in Dustin May, and that's when the floodgates opened for the Dodgers.

May immediately gave up a single to Teoscar Hernandez, advancing Tucker to third with no outs. He struck out Max Muncy in the next at-bat before giving up an RBI single to Andy Pages that put the Dodgers up 1-0.

He forced Kike Hernandez to fly out for the second out of the inning. But it was Ohtani who found his stride again as he launched a massive three-run bomb to deep right field to put the Dodgers up 4-0.

Glasnow kept it rolling during the next top half inning with two strikeouts yet again for the third straight inning as he sent down the Brewers' order 1-2-3 again.

May settled in for Milwaukee in the bottom of the third, responding with a 1-2-3 of his own.

The Brewers finally showed some life in the top of the fourth with a Bryce Turang walk and William Contreras ground-rule double for their first hit that put the two at second and third with one out.

Jake Bauers continued his miraculous story this postseason with a ground-rule double of his own that scored both to cut the lead in half, 4-2.

Yelich forced him over to third with a groundout, but Glasnow finished out the inning by getting Garrett Mitchell to ground out as well.

After the second-inning blunder from May, he retired the next seven of eight hitters heading into the fifth inning.

The Brewers kept climbing back. Sal Frelick reached first on a one-out walk with David Hamilton due up. After Frelick stole second with ease, Hamilton brought him in with an RBI single to make it a 4-3 game, ultimately ending Glasnow's night.

He finished with four earned runs on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts on 79 pitches, 45 strikes.

Evan Phillips came in for Glasnow and his night ended as quickly as it started. After Hamilton stole second, Phillips walked Turang and Contreras to load the bases with two outs before being pulled for Alex Vesia to face Bauers.

Vesia threw four straight balls to walk home the tying run as the Brewers made it a 4-4 game. He prevented any further damage as he forced Yelich to ground out to end the inning.

JoJo Romero came in for May to face the top of the Dodgers' lineup. He sent them down 1-2-3, striking out Ohtani and Freddie Freeman and forcing Betts to ground out.

The Dodgers were 1-for-11 since Ohtani's home run heading into the sixth inning. Tanner Scott came in for Vesia and it didn't make things any better.

Garrett Mitchell, who made history in Game 3 with Bauers on back-to-back home runs, went yard yet again to give the Brewers their first lead of the night as they went up 5-4.

Romero continued to roll in the sixth, retiring the Dodgers after four batters. Tucker doubled to center with one out, but Teoscar and Muncy failed to bring him home.

Edwin Diaz responded in kind atop the seventh, sending down the Brewers batters 1-2-3.

Pages continued to be a thorn in the Brewers' side as he kicked off the bottom of the seventh with a lead-off double against Aaron Ashby, who came in for Romero.

The Dodgers went with small ball. Kike Hernandez bunted Pages over to third to bring Ohtani to the plate. Ashby wouldn't be denied. He struck out Ohtani on three pitches, then forced Betts into a groundout, keeping the game 5-4 in the Brewers' favor.

The rest of the way was shutout pitching from both sides.

Diaz had his second 1-2-3 inning after retiring the Brewers in order during the top of the eighth. Then things got interesting in the bottom half of the inning.

Freddie Freeman flew out to start things off. He finished the postseason going 1-for-19. Then Will Smith drilled a one-out line drive into right field that he legged out for a crucial triple.

Ashby got Tucker to fly out to shallow center as Mitchell tracked it down for the second out, holding Smith at third and leaving Teoscar to be the one to possibly bring in the tying run the same man who knocked in more runs than any other Dodgers player the last three years in the postseason.

And, just like the seventh inning, Ashby was clutch as can be, striking out Teoscar to leave a runner stranded on third.

After retiring eight straight Brewers, Diaz slipped up and gave up a solo blast to Hamilton in the top of the ninth to make it a 6-4 game.

Hamilton had just four home runs all year. Now, he helped the Brewers to three straight games with at least six runs.

Murphy left Ashby out there for the ninth to finish it off as they are now four games away from their first pennant. Ashby finished the series with nine scoreless innings.

He finished the sweep with a groundout, strikeout, then lineout.

Now... they wait....
