Ligue 1: Nice End Away Drought With Dramatic Win at Brest
| Wahi and Amoura inspire Nice comeback to stun brest |
Goals from Elye Wahi and Mohamed Amoura cancel out Ludovic Ajorque's opener as Nice secure a dramatic 2-1 Ligue 1 win at Brest despite late VAR drama.
Nice survive late penalty scare to clinch first away win with dramatic comeback at Brest...
Nice held on after conceding a stoppage-time penalty to come from behind and beat Brest 2-1, sealing their first Ligue 1 away win of the season.
Both teams came into the clash in Brittany after underwhelming starts to the season, separated by just a single point in the standings ahead of kick-off.
Nice have been a tough opponent for Brest in recent seasons, but Julien Lachuer's men were handed an early breakthrough in the 15th minute following a costly mistake from Yehvann Diouf.
The Nice keeper lingered too long on the ball and was dispossessed by Ludovic Ajorque, who calmly slotted into an empty net.
That marked Nice's fourth error leading directly to a Ligue 1 goal this season the most by any side in the division so far.
Diouf endured a torrid evening in goal, as another mistake nearly gifted Brest a second. His poor clearance fell straight to Mama Balde, who picked out Kamory Doumbia inside the area, but the Malian somehow failed to convert with an open goal gaping.
The miss proved expensive, as the energetic Elye Wahi brought Nice level in the 61st minute.
The Ivorian positioned himself ahead of Kenny Lala to meet Mohamed Amoura's corner, stretching out his right leg to turn the ball beyond Egil Selvik.
That wastefulness proved costly, with the lively Elye Wahi drawing Nice level in the 61st minute.
The Ivorian got in front of Kenny Lala to connect with Mohamed Amoura's corner, diverting the ball past Egil Selvik with an outstretched right leg.
In the end, it was Les Aiglons who claimed all three points with a goal that did little credit to the Brest defence. Bradley Locko was dispossessed by Diop, who fed Wahi - the forward was challenged inside the area, but Amoura pounced on the loose ball to fire past Selvik.
Nice's victory was not sealed without late drama, as a VAR check punished Isak Jansson for dragging down Ibrahim Kante inside the area.
But Lala failed to take the lifeline, with Diouf redeeming himself with a superb save to protect all three points in dramatic fashion.

Fought hard until the final whistle, the result lifts Nice five places to eighth in the table and ends a run of seven league away games without a win. Brest, meanwhile, slip one spot to 11th, with their patchy form so far pointing to another campaign battling in mid-table.
