EPL: Fulham Edge Past Hull To Secure First Premier League Win Of The Season
Alex Iwobi scored the only goal as Fulham claimed their first Premier League win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Hull City at Craven Cottage.
Iwobi the hero as Fulham secure crucial first win of the season against Hull...
Fulham earned their first Premier League win of the season at the seventh attempt (D2, L4) as they edged past Hull City 1-0 at Craven Cottage to ease the pressure on Alvaro Arbeloa.
Hull have been slow starters away from home this season, having conceded a league-high three goals before the 15th minute, and they were almost behind inside three minutes when Alex Iwobi's deflected effort skimmed the roof of the net.
Fulham were clearly the superior side in the first half, and Konstantinos Tzolakis spilled Oscar Bobb's free-kick before the hosts finally made their pressure count.
Sander Berge teed up Iwobi on the edge of the area, and the Nigeria international fired first-time into the bottom corner to lift the tension around the stadium.
Tzolakis then stuck out a leg to deny Josh King from a tight angle, as Hull kept the deficit to just one going into the second half.
Fulham have already dropped eight points from winning positions in the league this season, so were keen to add another goal and put themselves in a more comfortable position.
King should have done exactly that after being played into a promising position, but his effort was again saved by the legs of Tzolakis. Hull's goalkeeper then produced another solid stop as Iwobi poked towards goal from just a few yards out.
The Cottagers' goalscorer was the standout performer on the day, and he delivered a delightful cross for Gonzalo Garcia, only for the striker to head against the crossbar.
Fulham had conceded a joint-league-high four goals after the 75th minute this season, so Arbeloa knew that despite Hull's lack of threat in attack, his side were not home and dry just yet.
However, if anyone looked likely to score again, it was the hosts as they continued to push forward, and with Hull failing to register a shot on target, one goal proved enough for the Cottagers to seal a precious victory despite Ryan Sessegnon's late red card.
