Djokovic to play Basel for first time since 2011 in ATP finals push...
Novak Djokovic received a wildcard entry into the Swiss Indoors Basel on Friday, setting up his first appearance at the tournament since 2011 as the 24-time Grand Slam champion chases a spot at the ATP Finals and the 103rd title of his career.
The 39-year-old Serb arrives in Switzerland after a mixed Asian swing, where he claimed a record seventh China Open title before suffering a surprise second-round defeat to Poland's Hubert Hurkacz at the Shanghai Masters, a tournament he has won a record four times.
Djokovic has endured an inconsistent season by his own high standards. The former world No. 1 exited the US Open in the first round, his earliest Grand Slam defeat since the 2006 Australian Open.
The decision to add Basel to his schedule comes as a surprise after Djokovic had said following his early exit in Shanghai that he planned to play only the Paris Masters, scheduled for November 2-8, before the season-ending ATP Finals.
Basel offers Djokovic a chance to boost his bid for a 17th appearance at the ATP Finals. He sits 11th in the ATP Live Race to Turin and needs to finish inside the top nine, with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner sidelined for the rest of 2026 due to a persistent knee injury.

Djokovic will be making his fourth appearance in Basel, having lifted the trophy in 2009 after beating Swiss great Roger Federer in the final.
He joins a strong field that includes Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime and Americans Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz at the ATP 500 indoor hard-court event, which runs from October 26 to November 1.
