Kimmich misses Arsenal clash as Bayern ask for privacy

Bayern Munich suffer a setback ahead of Arsenal visit as Joshua Kimmich is ruled out due to a family bereavement. The German side are also without Michael Olise.

“On behalf of the family, we ask that his privacy and grief be respected...”

Bayern Munich will be without Joshua Kimmich for Wednesday's Champions League clash with Arsenal following a death in his immediate family, the Bundesliga champions have confirmed.

The 31-year-old midfielder missed Bayern's final training session ahead of the match, with assistant coach Aaron Danks initially citing personal reasons for his absence on Tuesday.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that Kimmich will not travel with the squad as he deals with the family bereavement.

In a statement posted on X, Bayern said: “On behalf of the family, we ask that his privacy and grief be respected, and that further inquiries and reporting be refrained from.”

Kimmich's absence is a further blow for Bayern, who will also be without suspended winger Michael Olise for the group-stage clash at the Allianz Arena.

Despite the setbacks, the German champions will take confidence from Saturday's dominant 6-1 Bundesliga win over RB Leipzig as they look to build on last week's entertaining 3-3 draw away to Viking in Europe.
