World No.1 and former US Open winner Jannik Sinner has pulled out of this month’s US Open because of a lingering knee injury.

The 25-year-old hasn’t played since winning his sixth Grand Slam at Wimbledon in July and has remained sidelined since.

In a statement posted to his social media, the Italian said: “Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year.

“We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue. I’m obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart.

“I was very much looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of the great fans there,” Sinner concluded.

The announcement follows Carlos Alcaraz confirming he will play at Flushing Meadows, despite concerns over his fitness in recent weeks.

Jack Draper Withdraw From 2026 US Open

Jack Draper has also pulled out of the US Open. The Lawn Tennis Association confirmed the Brit’s withdrawal just hours after Sinner’s announcement.

The LTA did not specify Draper’s injury, but reports suggest the world No.5 has been struggling with a persistent left arm issue.  

Draper reached a career-high of world No.4 in 2025 but had to end his season early due to a bone injury in his arm. He’s also dealt with a knee problem this year.  

Now down to No.143 in the rankings, Draper made early exits in both Montreal and Cincinnati.  

Draper’s best run at a major came at the 2024 US Open, where he made the semi-finals.

The US Open starts on Sunday and runs through to the final on September 13th.
