Joe Gelhardt joins Hull permanently as Tigers prepare for Man United opener.

“Everyone is aware of how much love I have for Hull. Once the owner called, it was always going to be Hull...”

Hull City have confirmed two new arrivals, with Joe Gelhardt joining on a long-term deal from Leeds United and French midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath also coming in.

The Tigers are back in the Premier League for the first time in almost a decade. Over the last few weeks the East Yorkshire club have been working to strengthen their squad ahead of what will be a battle to avoid relegation.

Hours after unveiling Lucas Gourna-Douath from Red Bull Salzburg, Hull delivered more good news to supporters with the confirmation of Gelhardt as their newest signing.

Gelhardt hit 15 goals for the Tigers during his Championship loan spell last season and was a key figure for Sergej Jakirovic, who pushed hard to make the move permanent.

He’s become a real fan favorite, helping drag the club clear of relegation trouble in the Championship before leading them to Premier League promotion in just 12 months.

Speaking to the club website, he said he’s thrilled to be back, and admitted the team face a big test in the top flight this season.

With Premier League know-how under his belt, Gelhardt links up with Jack Butland and Matt Targett as senior figures tasked with keeping Hull clear of danger ahead of their season opener against Manchester United.

“I’m over the moon. It’s been a great 18 months playing here - I’ve loved every minute of it. Since the season ended, I knew exactly where I wanted to be. Thankfully, it’s happened.

“Everyone is aware of how much love I have for Hull. Once the owner called, it was always going to be Hull.

“I was buzzing to come back and see everyone. Now we’re in the Premier League, everyone is excited to play against the best and test ourselves.

“Thanks to the fans for their support and the love you have shown me. Here’s to another four years!”
