Elena Rybakina out of Bad Homburg, hip problem threatens Wimbledon build-up...
Elena Rybakina’s Wimbledon build-up hit another snag as she pulled out of the Bad Homburg Open on Friday. Tournament organizers said a hip issue forced the world No.2 to withdraw.
The withdrawal came less than 24 hours after Rybakina lost in the Berlin Open round of 16 to Alexandra Eala, who is ranked 35th.
“Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from Bad Homburg due to some discomfort in my right hip,” Rybakina, 27, said in a story shared by the tournament's official Instagram page.
"I need to consult with my medical team and undergo further assessment before making any decisions about the next steps. Thank you for your understanding and support.”
The 2022 Wimbledon champion’s form has dipped. She’s lost 3 of her last 4 matches, starting with a second-round exit to Yuliia Starodubtseva at Roland Garros.

On grass her results have been mixed too. Rybakina won her Queen’s Club opener but lost to Katie Boulter in the quarters, then fell 7-5, 6-4 to Eala in Berlin on Thursday.
Rybakina sits 32-10 for 2024 after winning titles in Australia and Stuttgart. Now her focus shifts to getting fit for Wimbledon, which starts June 29, as she chases a second All England Club crown.
