Bob Armah double powers KuPS past Jaro in Veikkausliiga

KuPS ended a four-match winless run with a 3-0 home win over Jaro, who remain bottom after a third straight defeat.

Armah’s two second-half goals helped defending champions KuPS to a 3-0 home win, ending a four-game league run without a victory...

A win against Jaro has lifted KuPS into second place in the Veikkausliiga table.

They remain four points behind leaders Inter Turku, who picked up three points away at Ilves.

Inter Turku beat Ilves to stay top of Veikkausliiga

Ilves, who challenged for the title last season, have had a difficult start to this campaign with just one win in eight games. Their struggles were clear early on when Julius Tauriainen’s near-post cross was turned into his own net by goalkeeper Otso Virtanen after two minutes.

Ilves pulled level in the 18th minute when Goudouss Bamba ran onto Matias Rale’s ball over the top and stabbed it home. That was as good as it got for the hosts. Ten minutes later, Virtanen pushed a low cross straight to Tauriainen, who scored from close range to put Inter Turku back in front.

The visitors made it 3-1 just before the hour mark when Bismark Ampofo was fouled in the box by Bamba. Jasse Tuominen stepped up and calmly sent the penalty into the top corner.

It’s now three straight wins for FC Inter since their only defeat this season. Ilves, meanwhile, drop to 10th after their three-match unbeaten run came to an end.

KuPS end winless run with dominant victory over Jaro

KuPS returned to winning ways in the league after four games without a victory, beating Jaro comfortably at home. Jaro stay bottom of the table on goal difference following a third defeat in a row.

The home side broke the deadlock in the 34th minute in Kuopio. Gustav Engvall sent a long ball forward that Bob Armah controlled superbly, then cut inside the last defender and finished calmly to make it 1-0.

Armah added a second five minutes after halftime with another impressive goal. He brought down Saku Heiskanen’s crossfield pass on his chest and curled a low shot past the goalkeeper. Four minutes from full time, KuPS sealed the win when Joslyn Luyeye-Lutumba set up Valentin Gasc for his first goal since October. The result moves the defending champions a point ahead of AC Oulu, though they have played one game more.
