A first-half blitz from Embolo, Ndoye & Xhaka saw Switzerland cruise past Jordan 4-1. Tamari set up Al-Fakhouri’s consolation as the Swiss head to the 2026 World Cup in form.
Switzerland hammer Jordan 4-1, World Cup preparations off to perfect start...
Switzerland will head to the Americas for the 2026 World Cup on a high after a first-half surge saw them beat Jordan 4-1 at St Gallen’s Kybunpark. The win also extends their run to six straight home games with 3+ goals.
With that kind of attacking form at home, Switzerland’s early dominance wasn’t a shock. They had Jordan on alert inside 12 minutes with two offside flags and a missed chance from Dan Ndoye.
Jordan paid the price for ignoring those early warnings. More Swiss pressure followed and Yazeed Abulaila had to push a Johan Manzambi shot away from the bottom left corner. The keeper then brought down Remo Freuler in the box, and Breel Embolo slotted the penalty into the bottom right. That made it six home games in a row with a goal for Embolo before halftime.
Jordan had no answer and Switzerland doubled the lead just after the 30-minute mark. Dan Ndoye made up for his earlier miss by finishing cleanly after Michel Aebischer threaded a through ball into the area.
Granit Xhaka added a third during the long injury time from the VAR check. Another VAR review gave Switzerland a second penalty when Saed Al Rosan fouled Embolo. The ex-Arsenal midfielder drilled it low into the opposite corner to put the Swiss 3-0 up and in full control.
The game looked wrapped up, but Jordan showed intent early in the second half. Mousa Tamari, who had nine goal involvements in World Cup qualifying, set up Odeh Al-Fakhouri. He smashed a right-footed shot from outside the box into the bottom left corner.
That goal didn’t trigger a comeback though. From that point the match turned into missed chances and tired legs.
Jordan kept pushing, credit to them. Yazan Al Arab headed a corner over the bar from close range and gave Switzerland a brief scare. But the Swiss killed it off with 12 minutes left. A rapid counter ended with Embolo feeding the ball into the middle of the box for Christian Fassnacht to finish.

That goal capped a solid warm-up for Switzerland before their sixth straight World Cup appearance, which kicks off in two weeks against Qatar - another Gulf team with a similar style.
Judging by today, they’ll start their campaign as clear favorites to win. Jordan will have to take lessons from this quickly if they want to avoid a tough beating from Austria in their opener, despite having four more rest days than the Swiss.
