The Dallas Mavericks fired head coach Jason Kidd on Tuesday, ending his five-year spell with the team.

Kidd, 53, finished this season with a 26-56 record, the Mavericks’ worst since 1995-1996 when the franchise posted the same mark. He leaves Dallas with an even 205-205 record and led the team to the Western Conference Championship in 2023-2024.

Kidd will now look for his next coaching job, potentially his sixth team since starting his NBA coaching career. He began with the Brooklyn Nets in the 2013-2014 season before spending four years with the Milwaukee Bucks from 2014 to 2017.

After taking the 2018 season off, Kidd returned as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers for two years from 2019 to 2020. He then took over as head coach of the Mavericks in 2021.

Brooklyn is the only stop where Kidd left with a winning record. Before finishing 205-205 in Dallas, he went 139-152 in Milwaukee and lost in the first round of the playoffs in three of his five seasons there.
