Volendam scored twice from mistakes to win away at Willem II and gain the advantage in the Eredivisie relegation play-off final...
FC Volendam will take a 2-1 advantage into Saturday’s relegation play-off final after beating Willem II in Tilburg on Wednesday evening.
Volendam reached the play-offs after a 2-1 defeat to Telstar over the weekend. That loss was sealed by a 89th-minute penalty scored by Telstar goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr.
Against Willem II, FC Volendam were gifted a two-goal lead through defensive errors. Per van Loon passed the ball straight to Bilal Ould-Chikh, and the Moroccan midfielder calmly finished past Thomas Didillon-Hödl. Shortly after, Henk Veerman took the ball off Didillon-Hödl and dribbled around the French goalkeeper before rolling it into an empty net.

Willem II pulled one back when Nick Doodeman placed a neat finish into Roy Steur’s far corner. The hosts were fortunate it stayed 2-1, as Didillon-Hödl and the woodwork denied Benjamin Pauwels and World Cup-bound Brandley Kuwas.
FC Volendam deserved the 2-1 win and will defend a one-goal lead in Saturday’s second leg. The relegation play-off final kicks off at 20:00 CET.
