Liverpool and France striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the World Cup after rupturing his Achilles against PSG in the Champions League, L’Equipe and Le Parisien report. The 23-year-old, who has 17 goals for Liverpool this season, was stretchered off at Anfield during Tuesday’s 2-0 quarter-final defeat.

France forward Hugo Ekitike suffered a ruptured Achilles during Liverpool’s Champions League clash against PSG on Tuesday and will miss the World Cup, French newspapers Le Parisien and L’Equipe reported on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old pointed to his Achilles tendon as medical staff treated him before he was carried off on a stretcher at Anfield, where Liverpool lost 2-0 in their quarter-final second leg and exited the competition 4-0 on aggregate.
The French Football Federation (FFF) was not immediately available for comment.

Ekitike has 17 goals in all competitions this season since Liverpool signed him from Frankfurt for £69 million in July, and has scored twice for France since the start of the current campaign.
