Clara Tauson, the 17th-ranked Danish tennis player, is sidelined indefinitely due to a back injury.
She suffered the injury during the Miami Open, forcing her to retire in the first round against Katie Boulter. Tauson had been set to play the WTA 500 tournament in Linz, Austria, next week, but she's withdrawn from the event.
Clara Tauson's back inflammation has gotten the better of her, forcing her to take a break from tennis.
It's a frustrating repeat of issues she's had at Indian Wells and the Miami Open, where the back problems caused her significant pain. Tauson's also busted about missing the Linz tournament, especially after making semis there last year.
Clara Tauson says, “Unfortunately, I cannot play the wonderful tournament in Linz. I have many good memories from the tournament and will definitely return in the future.”
It's unclear how long Tauson's sidelined, but she's still registered for Stuttgart in a few weeks. Big tournaments in Madrid and Rome are on the horizon, followed by Roland Garros in Paris starting late May.
