A 60-year-old man, Nigel Dewale, has received a suspended jail sentence for posting racist online messages about England defender Jess Carter during the Women's Euros last year. Dewale sent two posts from his TikTok account, calling women's football “diabolical” and containing racist insults targeting Carter's race.
Dewale pleaded guilty to sending malicious messages and possessing an offensive weapon, an extendable baton, found at his home. He was sentenced to six weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months, and banned from football grounds for four years. He must also complete 10 rehabilitation days and abide by a three-month curfew.

Dewale used derogatory language in messages, referring to people with brown skin as murderers and “groomers.” The messages were traced back to him, leading to his arrest and charges.
He was sentenced to six weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, at Blackburn Magistrates' Court in northwest England.
Dewale pleaded guilty to sending a grossly offensive message via a public communications network at an earlier hearing. The messages targeted England defender Jess Carter, who's now playing for US team Gotham FC.
Carter, 28, was part of England's title-winning squad at the Euros.
