Inter Milan's season is unraveling after suffering their third consecutive defeat in all competitions, with Matias Soulé scoring the winning goal for Roma at San Siro. This loss follows a tough week for Inter, who were overtaken at the top of the table by Napoli after a defeat at Bologna and eliminated from the Coppa Italia semi-final with a 3-0 loss to Milan.


Inter welcomed back Alessandro Bastoni and Henrikh Mkhitaryan from suspension, but Marcus Thuram was sidelined due to injury. Roma, meanwhile, missed key players like Paulo Dybala, but surprised with an attacking lineup featuring Eldor Shomurodov and Artem Dovbyk upfront.


Inter had a promising start when Davide Frattesi scored against his former club, but the goal was disallowed due to Carlos Augusto being offside on the build-up play.


Benjamin Pavard suffered an awkward landing on his ankle and was substituted in the opening 14 minutes, with Yann Bisseck replacing him.


Roma capitalized on a mistake and took the lead after two similar moves in quick succession.


Matias Soulé created the winning opportunity by dribbling down the right flank and pulling the ball back to the edge of the box on both instances. Lorenzo Pellegrini's deflected shot fell to Soulé, who capitalized by scoring an angled drive after Manu Kone's initial effort had gone off target.


Roma nearly doubled their lead when Bryan Cristante's finish was inches shy after Lorenzo Pellegrini's cross from the right. Carlos Augusto made a crucial block to prevent Shomurodov from tapping in a potential goal.


Marko Arnautovic attempted an acrobatic scissor-kick volley but missed the ball on Matteo Darmian's cross. Tommaso Baldanzi had a shot saved by Yann Sommer, and Matias Soulé also curled an effort off target.


Denzel Dumfries made his return to action for Inter after a month-long injury layoff and immediately created a chance, heading the ball towards goal, which Mile Svilar managed to deal with. Hakan Calhanoglu also had a shot that went just wide.


Nicolò Barella found himself in a great scoring position after a lay-off from Lautaro Martinez, but unfortunately flashed his shot across the face of the goal from just seven yards out.


Roma wasted two golden chances to extend their lead. Niccolò Pisilli's finish from 12 yards went narrowly wide, and Artem Dovbyk's poor first touch on a counter-attack allowed Francesco Acerbi to block the subsequent shot.


In the final minute, Yann Bisseck had his penalty appeals waved away after a tussle with Evan N'Dicka at the back post.
