Concerns Raised By NAFDAC Regarding Sales Of Fake TANDAK Anti-bacterial Injections

CONCERNED about the sale of fake 1.5g powder TANDAK injection and injectable water, allegedly made in Gujarat, India by Intracin Pharmaceuticals PVT. LTD, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NAFDAC) has issued an alert.

NAFDAC released a statement on Wednesday, April 10, stating that Marcson Healthcare Ltd., the Marketing Authorization Holder (MAH) for TANDAK, reported the counterfeit product to the agency after it was found in Gombe State.

A co-formulation of 500 mg of sulbactam and 1000 mg of ceftriaxone, known as TANDAK injectable, is given to treat a variety of bacterial infections.

A co-formulation of 500 mg of sulbactam and 1000 mg of ceftriaxone, known as TANDAK injectable, is given to treat a variety of bacterial infections.

It functions by preventing the development and dissemination of microbes.

NAFDAC did stress that this drug should only be taken while a medical practitioner is supervising.

As counterfeit medications do not meet legal requirements, their safety, effectiveness, and quality are all jeopardized, and their unauthorized distribution presents serious health hazards.

NAFDAC has directed its State Coordinators and Zonal Directors to carry out surveillance and take the fake TANDAK items out of distribution within their respective regions in reaction to the revelation.

In addition, NAFDAC offices should be notified of any concerns about the sale of counterfeit or subpar medications or medical equipment by consumers and healthcare professionals alike.

Reports may also be submitted by email to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng or by calling 0800-162-3322.

Recall that earlier in the year, NAFDAC had alerted the public about the sale of counterfeit anti-diabetic medications.

On Friday, January 19, the agency expressed concerns regarding the sale of Ozempic, a medication injection solution, which is often found in international markets in pre-filled pens.

However, NAFDAC's aggressive action highlights how crucial it is to protect the public's health and guarantee the integrity of pharmaceutical items sold in Nigeria.
