Supreme Court Upholds Gombe Governor's Election
The verdict is coming about ten months after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared
The rulings of the lower courts that confirmed Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya's election have been upheld by the Supreme Court.
Peoples Democratic Party member Jibrin Barde disputed the election results.
In November 2023, the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld Yahaya's election as governor.
According to the appellate court, the petitioners' claims of non-qualification, perjury, and certificate forgery were not supported by sufficient evidence.
The Supreme Court's five-member panel, presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, upheld the lower courts' concurrent ruling in this case.
She stated that she could not find any issues with the ruling that would require the highest court to get involved.
