Elina Svitolina delivered a steadier performance in the French Open second round, beating Spanish qualifier Kaitlin Quevedo in straight sets on Wednesday. It was a more convincing showing than her opening match.
Svitolina, who claimed the Italian Open title earlier this month with wins over Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, defeated world No. 126 Kaitlin Quevedo 6-0, 6-4.
“It was a great match, I started very well in the first set,“ she said.
Svitolina had a tough first-round match, edging Hungary’s Anna Bondar in a deciding-set tie-break on Monday. She then watched her husband Gael Monfils play what may be his final French Open match in the night session.
This time she started much faster and took control of the match against Quevedo right from the start.
Quevedo played better in the second set, but Svitolina broke serve in the ninth game to close out the win.

Svitolina reached her fourth career Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open earlier this year. She will next face Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch, who reached the third round of a major for the first time at 31 after beating China’s 32nd seed Wang Xinyu.
