Mathias Gidsel's impressive performance has propelled Fuchse to second place in the Handball Bundesliga standings.

SC Magdeburg has extended their lead at the top of the table with a hard-fought 27-25 victory over relegation-threatened Bergischer HC. The Champions League winners struggled against BHC in Düsseldorf, failing to take a commanding lead despite eventually pulling ahead for the first time just two minutes before halftime. Magdeburg's Felix Claar led the scoring charge with ten goals, and the visitors maintained their composure in a tense final phase to secure the win.

Magdeburg's victory was made sweeter by SG Flensburg-Handewitt's loss to THW Kiel the previous day, which has now left them seven points behind Magdeburg. Flensburg, previously Magdeburg's closest challengers, had been looking strong but faltered in their northern derby match.

“That was a really tough battle,” said Magdeburg backcourt player Gisli Thorgeir Kristjansson to Dyn. “Everyone was desperate to win, but we still have plenty of room for improvement in terms of performance.”

Füchse Berlin climbed to second place in the Handball Bundesliga, capitalizing on Flensburg's loss with a 45-29 thrashing of HC Erlangen. Mathias Gidsel led the charge with 11 goals, extending Füchse's winning streak to nine games. They're now six points off leaders Magdeburg, with the top clash between the two sides set for March 28.

Bergischer HC fans got a pre-match boost with Sören Steinhaus extending his contract till 2028, but it didn't translate to points.

BHC's relegation battle just got tougher, with HSG Wetzlar just two points away from taking their spot. Leipzig's draw with Stuttgart sent them to the bottom.

Lemgo Lippe's title hopes took a hit, losing 27-30 to Frisch Auf Göppingen at home. They're sixth, but international spots are slipping away.
