Benfica coach Jose Mourinho has warned that Gianluca Prestianni's career under him will be over if the midfielder is found guilty of racially abusing Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior. The incident occurred during the Champions League play-off clash between Benfica and Real Madrid on February 17th in Lisbon.
Jose Mourinho emphasized his commitment to fighting racism, stating that he repudiates any form of discrimination or prejudice. He also highlighted the importance of presumption of innocence, urging people to read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. If Prestianni is found guilty, Mourinho said he won't look at him the same way again and it's over between them.
“If, and I repeat that many times, it is proven that my player did not respect these principles, which are mine and Benfica's, his career with me will be over,” Mourinho told reporters.
Gianluca Prestianni is under investigation by UEFA for allegedly racially abusing Vinicius Jr. during a Champions League match. He's been provisionally suspended for the second leg of the playoff tie and could face a minimum 10-match ban if found guilty.

Benfica manager Jose Mourinho faced criticism for suggesting Vinicius might have provoked the abuse with his goal celebration. Mourinho later clarified that he repudiates any form of discrimination and would take action if Prestianni is found guilty, stating “his career with me is over.”
“The presumption of innocence is a right,” added Mourinho.
“If the player is indeed guilty, I will never look at him the way I have looked at him, and that's the end of it for me, but I have to put many 'ifs' in front of it.”
