Thomas Tuchel Extends England Contract Until 2028
| England secure Tuchel's future until 2028 |
England manager Thomas Tuchel signs new deal until 2028, with coaching staff also agreeing to extended contracts, as Three Lions prepare for World Cup and Euro 2028.
“There is simply no better candidate available in world football...”
Thomas Tuchel has extended his contract as England's national team manager until 2028, just a year after taking over the role. This means he'll lead the Three Lions through the upcoming World Cup and the Euro 2028 tournament, which England will co-host with Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Tuchel's tenure got off to a great start, guiding England to a successful World Cup qualification campaign. They topped Group K with an impressive eight wins from eight, scoring 22 goals and conceding none. The German coach expressed his excitement about continuing with the team, saying, “I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England.”
The FA's decision to extend Tuchel's contract provides “clarity and full focus” on the World Cup. With this new deal, Tuchel has ruled himself out of a potential move to Manchester United, where he's been touted as a possible replacement for sacked manager Ruben Amorim.
He will lead them into the World Cup as one of the favourites.
In a statement, Tuchel said: “I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England. It is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup. It is an incredible opportunity, and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud.
“I have had so much support from Mark (Bullingham, CEO), all my colleagues at The FA and from fans wherever I go that I did not hesitate when asked to continue in this dream job. EURO 2028 will be a very special tournament, and as a coach, there is nothing more you want than to compete with the very best on the biggest possible stage.”
Thomas Tuchel's coaching staff, including Anthony Barry, Henrique Hilario, Nico Mayer, and James Melbourne, have agreed to new two-year contracts with the England national team. This move ensures continuity and stability for Tuchel's team as they prepare for upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2028.
A rare slip-up for Tuchel's England side came in a friendly loss to AFCON champions Senegal, where he fielded a rotated squad. The 3-1 defeat at the City Ground was a surprise, but Tuchel's overall start as England boss remains solid, with World Cup qualification secured with a game to spare.
Committed to our journey 🏴🦁

Thomas Tuchel will lead our #ThreeLions through to 2028 after signing a new contract!
Despite that, the Football Association's (FA) CEO, Bullingham, added: “I am delighted Thomas has committed to stay with us through to the Euros in 2028. He was the right person for the job when he joined us for the World Cup campaign, and he has only strengthened his reputation across the qualifiers. We know the players are right behind him, and the togetherness within the group is there for all to see.
“There is simply no better candidate available in world football. With his big-game experience, knowledge and passion, he gives the squad the very best chance for success – this summer and with the once-in-a-generation EURO being hosted on these shores in two years’ time.”
"I’m obviously super happy to have my staff around me because they challenge and support me." 👊

Their full focus remains on doing as well as possible this summer, and by securing them early for 2028, we have taken away the potential distraction of contract renegotiations around the tournament.”
