Wissam Ben Yedder, the former Monaco captain and France international, has been convicted of psychological violence against his estranged wife. The Nice Criminal Court sentenced him to a fine of €90,000 and ordered him to pay €60,000 to his wife, with €30,000 for damages and €30,000 for legal costs. This ruling comes as the couple is in the process of divorcing. Notably, the prosecution had requested an eight-month suspended prison sentence and a €10,000 fine.

Additionally, he was instructed to pay €60,000, with €30,000 going towards damages to his wife and €30,000 for legal fees. His lawyer, Marie Roumiantseva, announced that Ben Yedder, who didn't attend the verdict, plans to appeal the ruling.

Background of the Case:

Psychological Abuse Charges: Ben Yedder's ex-wife accused him of threats, severe psychological and economic abuse, insults, humiliation and intimidation, leading to the end of their relationship in May 2023.

Previous Convictions: This isn't Ben Yedder's first brush with the law. In November, he received a suspended two-year jail sentence for sexually assaulting a woman. A Spanish court also handed him a six-month suspended sentence in 2023 for tax fraud during his time at Sevilla from 2016 to 2019.

It was the 35-year-old former Monaco and Sevilla forward's second conviction in less than a year.

In November, he received a suspended two-year jail sentence for sexually assaulting a woman two months previously.

He was also given a six-month suspended sentence by a Spanish court in 2023 for tax fraud during his 2016-19 spell at Sevilla.

And he is under investigation, alongside his brother Sabri, for the alleged rape of two women in 2023, which the two men deny.

Ben Yedder's Current Situation:

  • Club Status: Without a club since his brief stint earlier this year at Sepahan in Iran
  • Monaco Legacy: Second on the club's list of all-time leading goalscorers with 118 goals in 201 matches
  • Upcoming Trial: A trial related to the psychological violence case is set for December 2025

Ben Yedder plans to appeal the ruling, according to his lawyer Marie Roumiantseva. This conviction adds to his recent legal issues, including a suspended two-year jail sentence for sexually assaulting a woman in September 2024, and a six-month suspended sentence for tax fraud during his time at Sevilla from 2016 to 2019.
