Atletico Madrid's forward Julian Alvarez will miss the Champions League clash against Liverpool due to ongoing recovery from discomfort. Alvarez was forced off in the first half of Atletico's match against Villarreal on Saturday.


The 25-year-old Argentine World Cup winner has been dealing with the issue since the Villarreal game, where he was replaced at halftime. Alvarez has scored one goal in four games this season for Atletico Madrid.


Thiago Almada, José María Giménez, and Álex Baena won't be part of Diego Simeone's 22-man squad for the Anfield game against Liverpool due to injuries. Almada has a calf muscle injury, while Giménez is dealing with a thigh injury sustained on June 20th. Baena, who recently underwent surgery for appendicitis on September 2nd, is also sidelined.


Additionally, Johnny Cardoso won't be traveling with the team due to a left ankle sprain he sustained during training on Monday. Julián Alvarez, who suffered a knee injury during the 2-0 win over Villarreal, is also ruled out for the match.
