EPL: Bournemouth Suffer Fourth Straight Home Defeat

Ipswich Town secured a vital 2-1 win at Bournemouth to breathe new life into their Premier League survival bid, with Nathan Broadhead and Liam Delap on target.

Ipswich Town breathed new life into their fight for Premier League survival with a stunning 2-1 upset over high-flying AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. This victory marked Ipswich's first win of 2025, keeping their slim hopes of avoiding relegation alive.

AFC Bournemouth's short turnaround after their FA Cup quarter-final loss to Manchester City on Sunday seemed to take its toll, as they struggled to find their rhythm in the first half. The Cherries did create some early scoring opportunities, but Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer was equal to the task, denying Antoine Semenyo's long-range effort and later saving Alex Scott's near-post attempt.

Despite being on the back foot for much of the first half, Ipswich Town seized the initiative 10 minutes before the break, scoring with their first shot on target. This goal dealt a significant blow to the hosts, who had been expecting a more straightforward victory against their relegation-threatened opponents.

Ipswich Town took a surprise lead into halftime courtesy of Nathan Broadhead's well-crafted goal. The Welshman received a precise through ball from Julio Enciso, effortlessly skipping past Dean Huijsen's challenge before calmly slotting the ball between Kepa Arrizabalaga's legs.

The visiting fans' delight turned to euphoria on the hour mark as Ipswich Town doubled their advantage. A long ball upfield found Liam Delap, who cleverly combined with Conor Townsend before receiving a pass across the area. Delap then unleashed a powerful blast into the net, sending the Ipswich faithful into raptures.

AFC Bournemouth thought they had been handed an instant opportunity to reduce the deficit when they were awarded a penalty. However, VAR intervened, correctly adjudging that Axel Tuanzebe's foul on Antoine Semenyo had occurred just outside the penalty area, denying the Cherries a chance to quickly halve the deficit.

Bournemouth managed to get back into the contest just five minutes later, as Evanilson capitalized on a rebound opportunity. Alex Palmer saved Lewis Cook's initial effort, but the ball fell kindly to Evanilson, who easily prodded it home from close range to reduce the deficit.

Despite being subjected to intense pressure in the closing stages, Ipswich Town displayed impressive resilience and determination, clinging to their lead to secure a potentially vital three points in their battle for survival. Although Kieran McKenna's side remain in the relegation zone, nine points adrift of safety, this surprise victory has injected renewed hope into their fight.

The shock defeat could have severe consequences for Bournemouth, who remain 10th in the Premier League table. This setback may prove terminal to their ambitions of joining the European-chasing pack, as they risk falling further behind in the standings.
