Brest Stun Monaco with Last-Gasp Winner in Ligue 1

Brest edged Monaco 2-1 in a thrilling Ligue 1 match, with Camara's stoppage-time winner sending the home fans wild and boosting the team's European chances.

Stade Brestois scored a thrilling 2-1 victory over AS Monaco in Ligue 1, with Mahdi Camara grabbing a last-gasp winner to boost Brest's European chances. Despite Monaco's strong away form being a concern, having only won one of their last 10 matches on the road (D3, L6), they started the match on the front foot, pressing high and creating opportunities. However, they couldn't find a way to test Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot in a frantic first half filled with fouls and strong challenges.

Brest began to grow into the contest and had the first real chance when Philipp Kohn weakly punched the ball towards the edge of the area, where Camara lay in wait. However, Kohn atoned for his mistake by making the save. The first period looked set to end goalless until a defensive mix-up just before half-time gifted the home side the lead. A shot from Abdallah Sima was impeded by Thilo Kehrer, who attempted to block, and the ball looped in the air before nestling in the back of the net, going down as an own goal against Kohn.

Brest's Thrilling Comeback Victory
Adi Hutter made a double change at halftime, but Monaco struggled to create clear-cut chances in the early stages of the second half. That changed just after the hour mark when a VAR review awarded a penalty to Monaco for a handball by Kenny Lala. Denis Zakaria stepped up and slammed the penalty past Marco Bizot, equalizing for the visitors.

The equalizer seemed to inspire the hosts, who seized control of the game and created several scoring opportunities. However, they had to be cautious of Monaco's counter-attacks, with Eliesse Ben Seghir forcing a fine fingertip save. In a thrilling finale, Mahdi Camara struck a winner deep into stoppage time, with his hopeful shot from distance somehow finding its way past Philipp Kohn to send the home fans wild. The victory could prove to be huge for Brest's European hopes, moving them within three points of the top six.
