Tunisian Court Jails Ex-Football Federation Head Wadie Jary for Corruption

Former Tunisian Football Federation chief Wadie Jary has received a four-year prison sentence for corruption, following multiple allegations and disputes during his tenure.

A Tunis court has sentenced Wadie Jary, the former head of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), to four years in prison on corruption charges. Jary's lawyer, Kamel Ben Khelil, has announced plans to appeal the verdict. This development comes after Jary was convicted of facilitating an unlawful contract between the FTF and a technical director, according to a sports ministry spokesperson.

Jary has been in custody since October 2023 and has faced numerous allegations in recent years, including match-fixing, financial misconduct, and money laundering. Despite denying these allegations, Jary's tenure as head of the FTF, which began in 2012, has been marred by controversy. Local media has reported on disputes between Jary and the sports ministry regarding various decisions made during his presidency.
