Bola Tinubu, the president, reaffirmed on Thursday the efforts of his administration to combat corruption and smuggling, which affect the country.

Speaking on Thursday at the commissioning of the Lagos Red Line Train, Tinubu stated that his administration's economic policies cannot be reversed.

“I agree smugglers will fight back, corruption will fight back. We will fight them to ruin. Corruption will go away, save the money for you to educate our children, to pay for the healthcare system of our people, to pay for the modern transportation system that works for highest number of people, not those few smugglers,” Tinubu said.

“We said we can do it, you believed in us. We said the people's lives will end up being better, you believed in us. I could hear a lot of voices right now, I asked for this job, I cannot complain, it's all about democracy.

“But this revolution that has started, this reform that is ongoing, we are not looking back. The engineering, the construction, the affirmation of our pledge to be loyal to our country. There is one thing I know is that there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.”

The President removed fuel subsidies upon taking office last year, which resulted in skyrocketing living expenses and prompted protests across the nation. Many Nigerians are finding it difficult to afford food due to the country's economic crisis and skyrocketing prices.

The first economic action Tinubu took was to stop the subsidy. According to him, the subsidy is an unsustainable financial waste that costs the state billions of dollars a year and permits large-scale smuggling of subsidized gasoline to neighboring nations.

The President also criticized the nation's labor unions during the commissioning, urging them to uphold peace.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) staged a nationwide demonstration two days ago in response to the dire economic conditions facing the nation.
