CHELSEA APPOINTS FRANK LAMPARD AS INTERIM MANAGER
Frank Lampard will serve as Chelsea's temporary coach until the end of the current season, according to a principled agreement
Frank Lampard will serve as Chelsea's temporary head coach for the end of the current campaign after reaching an agreement in principle.
Lampard is expected to be joined by Ashley Cole, Joe Edwards, and Chris Jones as members of his backroom team at the west London club.
Lampard, who watched Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge, is set to rejoin his former team two years after leaving.
The 44-year-old has been jobless since Everton fired him in January. From July 2019 to January 2021, he presided over Chelsea before being fired and then succeeded by Thomas Tuchel.
Lampard collaborated with Cole, the former Everton and England defender, Edwards, and Jones during his initial tenure at Chelsea.
In the next weeks, a thorough search for Graham Potter's long-term replacement, who left Chelsea on Monday, continue.
Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are leading the search for a new head coach at Chelsea, with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali ultimately making the call.
Both Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, who just lost their jobs at Bayern Munich, have been mentioned in connection with the Chelsea opening.
In command of the west London team for the tie with Liverpool was Bruno Saltor, a former member of Potter's coaching staff at Brighton & Hove Albion and then Chelsea.
On Saturday, Chelsea will play their next match at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
